From the medina of Fez to the Iblean territory, a shared charter takes form in different architectures and communities.
The house of formation, in Fez. A courtyard closed to the street and open to the sky; a workshop where the wood, the iron and the leather of the saddle stand together again, as they once did along a single street of the city. The house is still to be found.
The house of the craft, in the province of Ragusa. Its name is that of the fondaco where Ibn Jubayr slept in Messina and in Palermo. The discipline is one of craft and table, and the threshold is secular. Around it, the land that feeds the house.
The house beside the house, in Fez and in Sicily. From the munya of Ibn Luyūn it keeps the measure of water and the distinction between sojourn and work. It receives guests without making them apprentices, and without becoming a hotel.
Masters and apprentices inhabit the time of work together. Each house keeps its own disciplines and its own way of standing in its territory; both recognise the same charter.
