Being a guest

The guest is not a customer.

In Al-Munya, the guesthouse beside the house, hospitality is a craft like the others: it is learned, practised and measured. There are no hours of the world outside: there is the rhythm of the house, which gives notice before anything is missed.

What the guest finds.

A sober room, rooms in half-light for reading, a table laid at the hours of the house.

Whoever comes for a larger reason — a commission, a residency, a study — says so at the outset: the house distinguishes the ways of staying, and keeps the right measure for each.
